Ipswich is steeped in history from its town centre medieval streets and churches to its fine buildings. You have a chance to stroll along its historic Waterfront and streets, and there is a host of entertainment on offer – a vibrant mix of heritage, the arts, theatre, cinema, clubs and bars.
You are only minutes away from some of the prettiest Suffolk villages and countryside, as well as the stunning scenery of the celebrated Suffolk coastline – an ideal day trip with your flatmates.
Just minutes walk from the centre of town, Ipswich’s historic Waterfront is undergoing an exciting renaissance. Where once industrial mills and warehouses stood, restaurants and bars now spill out onto a quayside where an array of yachts and cruisers are moored. This is precisely where Athena Hall is positioned.
There is a great variety of shops, with two modern shopping centres, TowerRamparts and The Buttermarket, plus the "golden mile" of Tavern Street, with its mixture of high street stores, as well as long-established local businesses and specialist shops. The Walk, St Peters Street and St Nicholas Street are just some of the locations where you can find independent boutiques, delicatessens, antiques shops, art shops and much more.
Don’t forget, you can support your new local football team. Ipswich Town FC has its home only a short walk away and there are special rates on tickets for students.
